"Nursing Leader's Edge"

Last August 27, 2010, the Association of Nursing Service Administrators of the Philippines (ANSAP) conducted their Mid-year Convention at Fiesta Pavillon, Manila Hotel. This event was participated by different hospital administrators nationwide.
The event was started with a Eucharistic Celebration, officiated by Fr. Alvarez. The opening ceremonies was led by Ms. Linda G. Buhat, President of ANSAP, by stating the Organization’s Mission and Vision. Also, Mr. Rodolfo C. Borromeo, the Chairman of the Research Committee, gave a pep talk entitled, “Career Ladder, Pathway to Success.”
Ms. Annabelle Borromeo, Vice-President of the Nursing SLMC, gave a lecture on the increasing difficulty of Nursing leadership due to challenges brought about by several factors involving nurses, hospital administrators, and patients. She also mentioned about the “SWAT” in Nursing that could be an edge when facing leadership problems - Strategic leadership; Well-aligned goals, behavior, and process; Accountability; and Teamwork.
“Advanced Practice in Nursing” was the topic discussed by Ms. Vanessa Manila, an Associate Professor from UP College of Nursing. She tackled on the relationship of the Philippine Nursing Law (R.A. No 9173) with the resolution made by Board of Nursing which gave way to elements of advanced practice in Nursing to exist in our country.
Another topic presented on the convention is about “Nursing Informatics,” presented by Dr. Alvin Marcelo, the Director of National Telehealth Center of UP Manila. He emphasized on the great impact of technology in providing healthcare, specifically in the Nursing profession.
Col. Estelita Galutira, President of MCNAP, presented about “Quality of Care, Specifically on Patient’s Safety”. In addition, Ms. Cecilia Pena gave a similar discussion entitled, “Challenges in Patient Safety: Practitioner’s Perspective.”
Overall, the Mid-Year Convention was a huge success, with much innovations and updates presented. On behalf of the Operating Room Nurses Association of the Philippines (ORNAP), we congratulate the officers and members of ANSAP for organizing such a grand event!
