The Consuelo Gomez-Arabit Award for
Excellence in Perioperative Nursing

The Consuelo Gomez-Arabit Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nurses named after Mrs. Consuelo Gomez-Arabit, founding president. A dynamic administrator, Mrs. Arabit is an advocate of the rights of the nurses especially for those assigned in the Operating Room. Were if not for her, the OR nurses could have been replaced by technicians. Mrs. Arabit rallied against this move and even brought up to the court to maintain only registered nurse in the OR. It was also through her efforts that the first World Conference of the Association of the Operating Room Nurses (AORN) was held in the Philippines in 1978 participated in by representatives from 121 countries. For these and many more, the ORNAP will forever honor Mrs. Consuelo Gomez-Arabit.
