February 23, 2008—a perfect sunny day welcomed the delegates for the ORNAP Sportsfest 2008. As early as 7 o’clock in the morning, delegates, composed of perioperative nurses from different hospitals in Metro Manila, began to register for the annual event in Amoranto Sports Complex.
At 9:00 o’clock the program started with the Grand Parade Headed by our President, Board of Directors, Nomelec, Past President and the Parade of Colors (Red Team, Orange Team, Yellow Team and Green Team). The lighting of torch that signaled the official commencement of the Annual Affair was done by Mr. Arvin Daranciang followed by the ORNAP President and the captains of each team. The objective of this affair is to build a strong relationship and camaraderie among perioperative nurses.
This year’s games include Akbay-Lakad, Obstacle Course, Catch my tail, Tag of War, Centipede, Swimming, Basketball and Badminton. Nurses truly showed that their Passion, Competence and Teamwork are not only limited to the health care setting but to other fields as well, such as sports. The event ended successfully with the YELLOW Team as the over-all champion, while the RED team took home the Most Organized Team Award. The 2008 winner of the Biggest Hospital Delegates, the Philippine General Hospital once again bagged this year’s award for the same category. Mr. Melville True Velasco of the RED Team was the Best Team Captain. Ms. Kristine Serran is this year’s Ms. ORNAP 2008. Mr.. Rocky Toralba and Ms. Corazon Clamor was handed the Best Male and Female Athletes Awards respectively.
The 2008 sports event would have not been as vigorous and lively as it was if not for the two masters of the ceremony, Ms. Cathline Avellano and Mr. Dickinson Miciano. In addition, the success of this particular affair was made possible by the undying support and cooperation of the past Presidents, Board of Directors, B-Braun Inc., Lifelink and of course, all the members of the Operating Room Nurses Association of the Philippines. MABUHAY!
