ORNAP Zamboanga’s Regional Convention
Dickson R. Miciano, R.N.
While me and Ms. Marilyn Aro were waiting at the airport to board for our flight to Zamboanga city for the chapter’s Regional Convention and Scientific Meeting, Honorable Leonila Faire came minutes before check-in counters was close. According to her she had only few hours of sleep because she went back to Manila from Cagayan de Oro after attending the PNA’s annual convention.
A huge tarpaulin hanged at Zamboanga airport’s facade caught my attention greeting everyone, “BIENVENADEZ ZAMBOANGA”. There, we were welcomed by Zamboanga chapter’s president Ms. Bella Tandoc and Ms. Eva Relao. They take us to our hotel for a short rest then we went to Rigodon Ballroom of Hacienda de Palmeras in Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City for the two day convention. The convention was attended by close to two hundred participants from different places in the region.
As representative from the Board of Nursing, Honorable Faire became the highlight of the event as participants full of enthusiasms enjoyed asking question and queries with regards to the new set of Board and the recent scandal in the Nurse Licensure Examination given last June 2006. Another highlight of the convention was the induction of new sets of officers for the year 2007-2008.
On the afternoon of October 28, 2007, the second day of the convention, ORNAP National held its one of series of update / seminars on “Building Competencies in Managing Surgical Instruments”. Chaired by Ms. Flor Burgos, the seminar was facilitated by two experts in managing surgical instruments Mrs. Antonietta Palafox and Ms. Jenny Fernando of Aesculap Academy who were both trained in Germany. The seminar was aimed to provide participants updates and enhance their skills in proper maintenance of surgical instruments.
After the convention and the seminar / update, the Zamboanga chapter officers invited us to a very sumptuous dinner. Mrs. Bella Tandoc and other officers of Zamboanga chapter were very glad for the support given by ORNAP National headed by our president Mr. Rony Fajilagutan. To the officers of Zamboanga chapter and our colleagues in the region THANK YOU for your hospitality. “CONGRATULATIONS and MABUHAY ang ORNAP”.
