ORNAP reached out to more nurses with instrument management seminar

In cooperation with Aesculap Academy, with whom a MOA to conduct seminars on “Building Competencies in Managing Surgical Instruments” was renewed in September 2007 because of insistent demand. ORNAP significantly increased the number of nurses who are now aware and more conscious of the proper care and maintenance of surgical instruments.
Since the initial conduction of course in January 2007, 594 nurses and Clinical Instructors have already benefited from the four-hour lectures held at the Aesculap Academy facility. In addition, 1,064 nurses and nursing students in Pampanga, Zamboanga City, Tacloban and Cagayan De Oro attended the same seminar in 2007. Local ORNAP Chapters took an active role in ensuring the success of the seminar.
In 2008, the frequency of the seminar was increased to monthly conduction at the Aesculap Academy with an out of town schedule in Bayombong, Nueva Viscaya in June.
MANAGEMENT SEMINAR
The annual management seminar was held at the Conference Room of Chinese General Hospital and medical Center in Blumentritt, Manila on may 15, 2008. Dubbed as “Values in Governance among Operating Room Managers”, the seminar had Mila Llanes, RN, MAN, Assistant Dean of the College of Nursing of University of Sto Tomas as guest lecturer. Miss Llanes shared the importance of having core values in the nursing profession to 126 participants composed of nurse managers, educators, OR staff and nurse volunteers from various hospitals and institutions in Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, Cavite and Pampanga.
Highlight of the seminar was a pledge to uphold moral values in nursing in which officers of ORNAP, led by Rony Fajilagutan, and seminar participants personally affixed their signatures.
Also present during this half-day seminar were past ORNAP presidents such as Antonietta Palafox, Honorable Leonila Faire, Socorro Nombres, Carmencita Espeleta, Virginia Cocal, Evelyn Gaffud, Antonio Valera III and Teresita Artuz.
