ORNAP DAVAO CHAPTER

The Operating Room Nurses Association of the Philippines (ORNAP) Davao Chapter conducted their Regional Convention & Scientific Meeting last November 24, 2007 at the Waterfront Insular Hotel with the title Perioperative Nursing: Weaving Together to the Fabric of Care.

The event was well attended by participants from the region and different areas in Mindanao. Topics chosen were relevant to the current issues and concerns in the Nursing Profession and in the Medical Field as well.

A Eucharistic mass by Rev. Father Albert Alejo, SJ commenced the day’s activity. The Keynote Speaker, a General Surgeon, Dr. Warlito C. Vicente, MD, FPCS, shared inspirational annotations noteworthy to the partnership of nurses and doctors in the perioperative arena.

The Scientific Session started with a topic about Safety in Perioperative Nursing given by one of the Chapter Adviser, Ms. Norita de Guzman. Another equally relevant topic was the Ethico-legal Responsibilities and Accountabilities by a Nurse turned Lawyer, Atty. Eli Dino D. Santos. Participants were actively engrossed in the discussion. A Neonatologist, Dr. Jean Tay, talked about the last topic for the morsing session entitled Spiritual Dimension in Perioperative Nursing.

One of the perks of the convention is the sumptuous meal served in the picturesque beachfront of the Davao Insular Hotel while delegates were serenaded with a live band. That sure quite was a special treat to prepare for another exciting session in the afternoon! Some had the chance to go around the booths of the participating exhibitors from different companies.

Two more interesting  topics were  tackled in the afternoon. One was about Critical Thinking in Nursing by a Nurse Consultant, Nancy Brisa A. Fuentes, RN, MAN and another by a surgeon, Dr. Walter G. Batucan, who expounded on the latest and current practice in Hepatobiliary Surgery.

It was indeed a fruitful convention!  The enthusiasm of the Chapter Officers and their advisers made this event a success!

Congratulations and more power to Davao Chapter!
